Re: New install BE, TwEECer & DATAQ not talking

A friend just went through some issues with a DataQ and we solved them by moving the DataQ from a USB hub to a port on the machine. It checked out fine in WinDAQ, but BE wasn't happy with it being on the hub. It was mentioned in another thread that it might be an issue with latency. cgrey8 said you ...

Re: Data Logging DATAQ module with BE

For the record, he had everything set up properly in BE and the drivers were installed correctly. BE just wouldn't connect to it until we moved it from the USB hub to a port on the machine itself. I assumed it was a power issue, but the thing worked just fine in WinDAQ while on the hub. We were able...

Re: O2 Bung Length

I use spark plug anti-foulers. They're cheap and you can cut them to whatever length you want. Plus, you can weld the hole in the end you cut off and use it as a plug if you need to.

You should be able to tune that with a PE strategy and binary if you've got Moates hardware. I believe both of those are available on Clint's site.

ETA: I just checked and he's got PF2 and PF3 there, too.

Re: electric cooling fan on A9L?

Right, the engine needs to be running. I spent too much time trying to figure out what I'd done wrong because the fan relay wouldn't trip no matter what I did with the engine off. Fired up the engine and I could toggle the fan by changing settings in the tune and updating.

I had the original JAW that I blew up by screwing up the battery connections. I just installed a Spartan in my boss's car this summer and it's pretty straightforward. Power, ground, 5V signal and simulated narrow band. If you can enter values in the transfer function, there isn't any reason any wide...

probably so, i think he had to cut up and mate his intake, move the a/c line, and used a 100+mm gm t/b and tps, I'm not sure but i think he also had to cut up the exhaust to for the turbo, don't quote me though cuz I'm not 100% You also have to weld a block to the back of the head and drill it prop...

Volvo. I know a couple people who have done it. There's a fair amount of work before just "tossing" the head on a Ford block.

Re: Is there an open source AJAP5 strategy file

My knee-jerk reaction was to recommend the swap to the CBAZA. However I remembered that the stock 2.3Ls are those odd-ball 4 cylinder engines with 8 plugs. I don't remember if the turbo version of the 2.3Ls that came in the Tbirds or the Merkurs was the same engine or not. The 2.3t is the same bloc...

Re: Running 97 Explorer v8 on CDAN4 ECU

There have been a bunch of reports of the cheap ones failing. I'd be getting a new Motorcraft one. However, since the computer is only looking for the falling edge with the VR sensor, I could still just use the one that's already on the engine and time it manually. I actually have a 3.8 plug and was...

Re: Running 97 Explorer v8 on CDAN4 ECU

Thanks for the explanation of the hardware side.

As for getting the VR plug from a junk yard, all the ones I've found are severely worn out. I'm not about to use once that's got 1/4" of end play. I'd sooner use my existing one with a VR sensor and just align it manually.

I remember a thread talking about the various Ford cam sensors and there is more than just 2. There are at least 3 and I don't just mean physical shape. I mean the internal sensor part is different on each making them electrically incompatible even if you could stab them into the same hole and have...

I remember from the 2.3t days that there were a lot of PCV valves that didn't seal well, I even sent back a couple Motorcraft ones that leaked right out of the box. Does that CDAN2 doc have a glossary to help me understand what NUMCYL and SYNC_CTR mean? I would like to read through that doc. I'm guessing SNYC_CTR is what tells the EEC where number one combustion should be but 26 or 22.5 degrees late ??? Now the ECC can establish NUMCYL, prepare for ignition on...

Both of the examples in the document are for a V6. Were you running the Ford plug when you tried HE or were you using ...

My car is happily running the A9L2. If you don't have a huge cam, you'll want to adjust the dashpot settings right away, but apart from that it's just a matter of tuning. Follow the instructions on his site and ask him questions if you're not getting something.

Re: Questions for good Wideband health.

The reasoning I've seen for not having the sensor powered up with the engine off is concerning cold engines. The explanation I saw was that if the sensor is fully heated and you start a cold car, condensation in the exhaust could cause the ceramic to crack. No idea about the validity of this.
