Im having a small issue with a strategy file.
Hi All.
Im running an A9L with GUFB strategy in my pickup truck that used to have a speed density system but the A9L took a dump and now Im without my daily driver for over a week and that doesnt sit with me too well so I had an idea.
Seeings I have the stock speed density ECU from the truck I wanna repin the ECU plug to work with it but it seems im having issues with the LUXO bin file as it says its missing key data. Its a 1991 Ford F250 5.8 w/5 speed transmission. The one thing that makes using the ECU as-is is the fact that Im running 36lb injectors and dont want to switch back to the old &sketchy 19lb stock injectors.
I tried to load a DA1 file after the LUXO but it says I may need a dongle update to complete the mission.
Am I correct about this?
Do I need my Dongle amended? If so whom do I contact to achieve this or can the person whom Im supposed to contact-contact me via pm and let me know what I need to do to cross the finish line?
Any help is very much appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Im having a small issue with a strategy file.
Sorry for the late reply and sorry for being vague but yes ;- BE.
The LUXO file was downloaded from the strategy site that everyone uses and says payload is missing plus when I hit ok theres only a full BE template and no scalars.
Heres the initial message i get but dont even know if the LUXO strategy will even work too as the ECU Im trying to reuse is a Speed Density unit from my 1991 Ford F250 5.8 5 speed manual and seeings it was bought from AutoZone 16yrs ago it doesnt have the sticker with the info code...
Thanks in advance for any help.

This is the link. But dont worry as I feel Im just being stifled to be counterintuitive to my needs so i paid $600 for another A9l and will be here tomorrow... Thanks anyways

I'm not seeing that error.
What do you see if you click on the Details Button in the error dialog?

Re: Im having a small issue with a strategy file.
It says a whole mess of stuff is missing and says scalars wont be displayed and just the BE template comes up with zero scalar population.
That problem hopefully will be a memory as a guy on FB whos affiliated with Core Tuning is gonna look into the whole debacle as another person was experiencing the same thing but hes away til Thursday so it would be nice to be able to use the old ECU in a last resorts , last resort.
Right now Im having an issue with a Bluestreak unit that states its for a 1989 Mustang but its California emissions but my BAP also my MAF settings arent showing up and my settings that worked flawlessly with the A9L are running very very lean and Im not getting any error codes or CEL but wont allow me to rev it up without popping very leanly so I think Ill have to post this new issue in a new post to see if anyone has run across this issue before as I believe the ECU is associated with an 8LD code and GUFA strategy but when i use the GUFA/8LD combo the truck runs worse and the MAF still doesnt egister and I dont get any CEL or errors ;- unless the mods are cool with me keeping this post alive as I plan on revealing the fix once he gets back from vacation on Thursday but im not expecting anything to happen right away either .....

I feel that im gonna have to get an update to my Dongle to be able to use the stock 351w ECU ad also my 8LD with my BE and be able to have the right strategy as I was able to run an 8LD 4 years ago using the tune I tried today and if I remember right the tuner that was helping me at the time sent me a patch thats been erased from numerous BE rev changes kinda forced upon me over the last 4 years..
The screenshot above was datalogged using GUFA/8LD
On a side-sidenote the ECU repair service I sent the A9L to turned into a nitemare scenario as the rebuilder had a multitude of excuses then had a meltdown when I asked questions and refunded me back my money then sent my ECU around the world on a slow boat from China as Ill be getting it sometime as the USPS website says on April 20th and its only going from Va to NY then its gonna have to go to another rebuild service I used before thats in Florida and should of re-used so Im stuck with this EM704S ECU until then and gotta make it jive so if anyone has any wisdom for me on this new situation Im all ears ...........

Re: Im having a small issue with a strategy file.
Ive been reading and some here say that they had no issues going from GUFA to GUFB/A9L on the 8LD but when you compare the 8LD file against my A9L program the data becomes very skewed so running an A9L tune on a GUFA strategy doesnt seem possible with the strat. reading the calibration differently

According to BlueStreak they have the ability to make changes where their EM704S ECU can run on my 1989 Mustang without any extra programming so I think the GUFB/A9L tune will work and I feel seeings the EM704 is a cali emissions ECU that the fuel pressure regulator may need to be bumped up to 43.5psi over the stock A9L pressure of 40psibwith vac hose disconnected but quite strange that the MAF BAP and alot of other things wont register in my datalogs......

Re: Im having a small issue with a strategy file.
Go back to an earlier version of BE, if others are having the same errors with a new release.
Using mismatched strategy and bin files is a sure way to have problems. GUFB.XLS and A9L bin go together.

Re: Im having a small issue with a strategy file.
Agreed, keep the calibration with the correct strategy.
GUFB - A9L
GUFA - 8LD
You can load a GUFB strategy with an A9L into BE and write that to a quarterhorse in the PCM that is labeled 8LD and vise versa.
Just be careful on swapping PCMs from automatics and manuals. It will fry the PCM traces if the O2 Wiring harness is not modified.

Re: Im having a small issue with a strategy file.
Oh I know but my point was I cat even refer4 to A9L settings for guidance but I figured it out.
For the issues theyre easily fixed with the tokens and somebody to amend my dongle with an update ..
Heres my issue and when i figure out how to post my csv files Ill send ya some datalogs datalogged with a GUFA strategy before I got the dongle amended and youll see my AFRs spiking up to 18 and also to mention the engine was running very very lean even after bumping up the adjustable fuel pressure regualtor up to 43.5 w/ vac hose disconnected as I have a fuel pressure gauge both at the rail also inside on the dash in a pod..
I had an inkling I didnt have a full license and was given just a GUFB but after some emails to some helpful members here i was able to gain a license to use the GUFA strategy with the 8LD ECU I changed to in lieu of trying to repin the plug to run the speed density system Id just get an ECU that would work while my A9L was in repair and thanks to an unnamed ECU rebuilder Im still driving on the same A9L with burnt out FP transistor but it still works with the FR trigger wire disconnected from the relay and just grounding the pin to the fender and the fuelpump runs fulltime but doesnt flood my engine but would like to be able to have a normal operating system...
So as of right now Im pretty much squared away and now Im considering my options for A9L repair until my new QH comes in on wednesday so I can send the other out for diagnostics and if needed some repairs too so when the A9L comes back it goes back in the primary vehicle and the 8LD will now be able to run in the secondary vehicle I recently acquired.
And yes I know to run the right strategy to the bin file except for Deciphas A9L2 bin file and GUFX strategy...
I was merely pointing out that some members have posts here on the forum stating they have no issues running an A9L tune on an 8LD ecu or vice versa...I forget but I tried their method and the engine ran but I had zero throttle control and FR's spiked to 18 and the engine shutoff harshly so I was trying to show that trying to compare A9L files in GUFA strategy mode is very skewed from whats actually in the a9l bin file which boggles my mind how someone can run an A9L tune on an 8LD ECU even with a QH chip...
Heres the post Im referring to.................

Re: Im having a small issue with a strategy file.
Oh I know but theres a post I read that stated that you can do stuff like that with quarterhorse Ill figure it out by the time Im done typing...LOL
Heres a screenshot of how the right strategy and the right bin file still couldnt produce results...Look at the MAF and the BAP...

Heres the post Im referring to that stated that strategy and bin file can be mismatched with the Quarterhorse and it didnt work out for me.................CSV file below

When you look at this datalog graph youll notice that theres no issues with even my A9L after I put it back in other than the FP trigger transistor....
The only thing I still cant seem to do is get my AFR's logged...I have AEM controller #30-0310 hooked into pin #27.
I tried doing the instructions given but it seems that theres both an X and a UEGO for my wideband...Do I use UEGO?

My STFT's disappeared too............

Before the updates my datalogs were doing what they were supposed to do and wish I could of kept the version of BE I had as it worked great for me.................

The AEM controller #30-0310 is their X series UEGO, so use the X series choice in BE.
CGREY8 will have used A9L.bin and GUFB.xls on 8LD. It will have worked to his satisfaction.
Which version of BE did you have success with?

Re: Im having a small issue with a strategy file.
I think there is some confusion going on here. Maybe on my part.
When you download a so called tune to the Quarterhorse you are downloading the Calibration and the Strategy. You have to keep the strategy with the given calibration. You CAN NOT mix match them. If you are using an A9L calibrations for example then you have to use the GUFB strategy.
You can run a GUFB strategy and an A9L calibration (Software) on the PCM (hardware) that had a GUFA strategy in its internal memory. I read in your post above that you used a GUFA strategy and opened an A9L calibration. It will open but, will show bogus data as you already mentioned. The datalogging parameters are at different locations and will not log correct values when using mis matched calibrations and strategies. It does not matter what version of BE you are using, this is not going to work.
Also if you read back the tune from the Quarterhorse using the wrong strategy you may have corrupted the tune. The two strategies use different patch codes for the datalogging and at different locations in memory.
