Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

Quarterhorse/TunerPro RT Datalogging Sample Rate

Post by thatblackfoxbody » Sat Aug 01, 2026 9:50 pm

Hello,

I am experimenting with my stock-ish 5 liter mustang with the Quarterhorse and TunerPro RT using the Decipha A9L2 binary.

I have been noticing when datalogging using TunerPro RT, the sample rate is much lower than I would expect. At most, I see about 10hz (10 samples per second). I've browsed the forums and noticed that others using quarterhorses seem to be able to datalog at 20Hz. The lower sampling rate means that data points from HEGOs aren't very helpful for dialing in CL part throttle fuel.

Is there something I've possibly misconfigured in TunerPro RT, or with the Quarterhorse usb/serial driver? I've tried this on an old windows 10 laptop, and a windows 10 virtual machine w/ usb passthrough. Both seem to cap out at about 10hz when doing data acquisition.

I've followed instructions from efidynotuning.com, as well as moates.net to set up the software/hardware. The driver for the quarterhorse automatically installed itself when the device was plugged into the computer, and in the device manager, I turned the latency timer down to 1ms as instructed here: https://shop.moates.net/pages/troublesh ... rivers-101

Out of curiousity, I also attempted to use the stock A9L/gufb binary/adx files, and this did not change anything (thought possibly a different adx file would help).

Is there something I'm missing? Can provide more details if need be. Car description is in my profile, but I don't believe I have a hardware problem (j3 connection is clean, car runs relatively well albeit a little rich from what I observe on the base a9l2 binary).

It comes down to how TunerPro sets up the DAQ from the QH. I'm not familiar with it so I don't know if the sample rate can be adjusted in the software. You absolutely want to make sure that the FTDI device settings in Device Manager has the Latency Timer set to -> 1ms <- for the fastest response.

I've been adding QH functionality in our Minotaur software and I've been able to get sample rates as high as 100 HZ (or higher), so I know the hardware can do it.

The device manager can be accessed by pressing [WinKey] + [R], entering "devmgmt.msc", and then pressing [Enter]. Go to [Ports] and then select the COM device for the QH. Right Click on the device, select [Properties], Click the [Port Settings] tab, and then Click on [Advanced]. You'll see the [Latency Timer] from there.

I hope this is helpful.

I appreciate the reply. I haven't had the chance to play with the car any more, but I'll double check the latency timer setting, and also check what device driver is loaded (moates suggests loading some of the drivers that are linked on their web page). If possible, I'll try to use a different computer. I believe the USB cable I'm using is fine (just the one included with the quarterhorse).
