Anything about Ford EEC tuning. TwEECer and Moates questions dominate, but there's some SCT and OBD-II knowledge too.

Smog questions

Post by 95fiftyman » Mon May 31, 2004 10:57 pm

I am trying to smog my car and am having trouble with my idle hydro-carbons. It was recently at 500%. I have since bought EEC-ANALYZER and changed my injector timing and it seems to run a lot better. I havent tried smogging again, but I still think I need to do more because I still smell some gas at idle. I am thinking of changing my low injector slope to something higher than 24 to lean out closed loop, but have been told not to do this with J4J1. Should I mess with spark timing tables because of my large cam (224/232, 274/282, .555/.565, 112)? Smog levels were fine above idle. Any help would be great.

Try unplugging two injectors (one for each bank) right before the test. I did this for my car (im-240 test) and it worked wonderfully. zero CO and 15 HC per mile. Ensure the car will start with both pulled ( I pulled 1 and 5) and do minimal fuel adjustments.

Instead of unplugging the injectors why don't you just put a 0 in the injector firing table for those injectors and program that on another switch position?
If you screw it up but then you fix it, was it ever really broken?

Are you suggesting changing the Injector Firing Order table from:

13726548

to:

03726048?

Does this work or was you just brainstorming?

Rick

No Longer Smog!

Post by 95fiftyman » Wed Jul 14, 2004 7:40 pm

I convieniently do not have to smog my car anymore. The new county I live in does not smog unless you want to sell your car. I want to lower my emissions though, I read that raising my low injector slope will fix this problem. Thanks for the ideas...

by putting 0 in the spots you don't want to fire an injector, you effectively have disconnected it. I put all zeros in the table for my anti-theft mode so the car has no chance of starting unless the figure what the knob on the dash is for.

oh yeah, i think you will only have success with this if you are only running in open loop since the computer will start adding fuel eventually when in closed loop. Just tune the car right and you shouldn't have any problems. Usually the only point that suffers with larger cams is the idle, if you get the car tuned well then you shouldn't have to cheat on the test.
