converting SCT tune to Cal Edit tune
i have a SCT tune on my stang, Iwent back to the tuner to get the file. He told me it would have a different file extension than the cal edit uses. Is there a way to convert the file so that it can be used in Cal Edit to reflash my tweecer. He said the extension was like an .sct or something. Basically what I am asking is what the tweecer guys use to read and chip and send us back the tune. He would do it if only I knew what software to use. I hope I didn't confuse anyone.
Thanks.

I know Mike does it, but I have to send the chip for a few weeks. My tuner told me he would give me the tune, but it probably is different from the Cal Edit software. Is there a way to convert so that I may save myself a week or two.boss96 wrote:Talk to Mike Glover about that, he should be able to read the chip for you.

I do not think you will be able to reburn the SCT with the Moates stuff. The F3 chip from Moates is something like 60 bucks and you can reburn it that chip as many times as you want.
I personally have not used the harware, but Paul Thornton has. He said it works good. The software that is used to edit the binary is the Tuner Pro.

I use Craigs stuff and found that it cannot read some aftermarket chips (eg Superchips and a few of the homegrown tuning firms over here in the UK). There are people out there though (eg Mike Glover) who can do it as they have the right hardware. As Clint says, your best bet is to ask your tuner if he can save the tune as a .bin file. Failing that, get a copy of the .sct file and see if it's just a .bin renamed with a different extension.

This comes directly fro Craig Moates:

This is the best way to do it.boss96 wrote:Talk to Mike Glover about that, he should be able to read the chip for you.

It is no where near that simple if you want the true binary file. The actual binaries are encrypted etc. etc......codeout wrote: This comes directly fro Craig Moates:

I was thinking the same thing as sailorbob, if the J3 port can read it then it can't be encrypted on that side of the chip. If this were the case then the Eec would have to know the encryption.

This true on some but not all J3 modules...sailorbob wrote:This will only be a problem if you extract the EEPROM from the chip adapter and try to read it in a programmer though.Dale McPeters wrote:The actual binaries are encrypted
I have two name brand J3 modules that I am
tinkering with that I can not get anything at all.... :?
And the car runs fine when it is plugged in....
I do not know why I am even tinkering with them
as I do not even need anything off of them...

Its says it right under you name "Tuning Addict"
I have heard that some of them do wierd things, what strikes me as strange... UNless ford has some built in encryption that we dont know about that they do it should all be good.
Would be nice to find someone that has a good logic analyser to put between the J3 port and the chip to see what is going on on the 2 that y ou are having issues with.

I suspect this might be down to a timing issue or maybe the chip is set up to only use the STROBE\ or the TSTSTB\ and your reader is using the other line.Dale McPeters wrote:I have two name brand J3 modules that I am tinkering with that I can not get anything at all..
Probably the same reason the rest of us are playing with the eec :DDale McPeters wrote:I do not know why I am even tinkering with them as I do not even need anything off of them...
